Alison is a visual artist and arts educator. She exhibits throughout the year at galleries in Yonkers and the Rivertowns, and has created murals at various local schools and community organizations. She holds an artist residency at Hillside Elementary School, guiding projects to supplement the social studies curriculum, and she designs and teaches programs for adults in accessing personal creativity. Previously, she served as chair of the board of Hastings Nursery School, and was creator and co-director of Random Retreat, a weekly speaker series for women.
Alison remembers getting her New York City public library card as one of the most exciting milestones of her childhood. She has since read and studied in libraries from San Francisco, California, to Oxford, England, but she feels most at home in the Yonkers public libraries. Here, she has been a mom needing quiet refuge with younger kids and homework help for older ones, a reader on a tight budget, and a resident accessing civic information. She believes strongly in the library's unique ability to provide Yonkers community members with similarly diverse and necessary resources. Alison has been a proud Yonkers resident since 2006 along with her husband, a Yonkers firefighter, and their two daughters, students in Yonkers public schools.
