Kathleen Ruen is Acting Director of the Graduate Art of Teaching Program at Sarah Lawrence College. She received her BA & MA from Sarah Lawrence College and her PhD from New York University. Kathleen has special interest in Arts Education, multi-disciplinary curriculum development, children’s rights, the history of education, and culturally relevant pedagogy. Recipient of research, arts, and teacher education grants. She is the founder and producer of The Art of Teaching Educational Film Series and a former movement/theater teacher, assistant director and DOE mentor at Central Park East I Elementary School in East Harlem.
Kathleen has fond summer memories as a child of walking to her hometown library and checking out as many books as she could carry, which she then read in a cozy chair bathed in sunlight. She is a voracious reader and a strong supporter of libraries as places of liberation.
